From beetles that have helped develop more efficient ways of collecting water in hostile environments to algae whose ability to screen out ultraviolet light holds lessons for makers of sun block, this publication shows how research has delivered. Showcasing a wide range of achievements stemming from the research supported by the Councils, this publication was produced at the same time as the Government’s 2002 spending review was allocated in autumn 2002. The document uses examples to demonstrate the impact of publicly-funded research on individuals and wider society.
