Operation of the Scheme
The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) administers the scheme, on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills, and act as a conduit for funds from all core sponsors.
The awards operate in a similar manner to EPSRC's Doctoral Training Grants, and a grant delivering the funds for each cohort of DHPA scholars will be issued to each recipient university in the summer of each year. This will contain an indication of the origin of the funds (contributing sponsors) and any guidelines regarding their use in line with this. Each scholarship is jointly funded by one public sector (Research Council) and one private sector partner, and will be badged to show this relationship (for example an ICI-EPSRC Dorothy Hodgkin Postgraduate Award).
