Research Councils value all the many diverse ways in which their research investments can lead to benefits for the UK society and economy.
RCUK particularly wishes to celebrate successful economic impacts arising from basic or "breakthrough" research. Here serendipity has a strong role, and successful impact depends upon individuals that can spot unexpected potential and have the motivation and capability to see these through to conclusion.
