Science and Innovation Network (SIN)

The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) established a network of Science & Technology attachés in 2000 which is now managed by the Department for Business , Innovation & Skills (BIS). The Network has more than 95 science officers in over 24 countries including USA, Japan, China and India.

The UK Science & Innovation team in India promotes research links between Britain and India by mapping and catalysing new opportunities for collaboration in science & innovation as well as using science as a tool in promoting a low carbon, high growth, global economy. The Team also reports on Indian S&I policy and developments and promotes the excellence of the UK science base.

The SIN network in India is spread across New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. Key aims of the SIN Network are:

  1. Facilitating research collaboration between UK-India universities, research laboratories and public-private sector counterparts; increasing access to funding.
  2. Strengthening UK's innovation capacity: helping companies to access and benchmark Indian technologies; facilitating R&D partnerships and technology transfer.
  3. Using science and innovation to influence Indian stakeholders for the UK's international priorities.
  4. Helping UK-Indian policymakers develop best practice in science and innovation policy; developing international frameworks in breakthrough technologies.
