The UK Research Councils have established an RCUK Office in the US to bring about
a step change in strategic level engagement and collaboration between the Research
Councils and US research funding organisations. The Office will work equally on
behalf of all Research Councils to identify and facilitate new research collaborations
in priority areas across the breadth of the research base. Specifically, the aims
of the Office will be to:
- Encourage collaboration between the best researchers in the UK and the US;
- Promote the movement of researchers between the UK and the US;
- Promote the sharing of access to data, facilities and resources between
the UK and the US;
- Influence the international research agenda;
- Promote the UK as a world centre for research and innovation;
- Operate in an effective and efficient manner;
The RCUK US Office will work primarily with US federal funding agencies and endowments
to share strategies, increase dialogue on funding priorities and pursue and promote
collaborative research opportunities.
The objectives for the Office over the period to 2010-11 are set out in a
delivery plan

The work of the Office underpins the RCUK international strategy, the international
and research strategies of the UK Research Councils', and contributes to UK's "Strategy
for International Engagement in R&D".
The RCUK Office is situated in the British Embassy in Washington DC and is co-located
alongside the UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office's (FCO) Science and Innovation
Network (SIN) team. The RCUK Office will work closely with the FCO S&I Network,
including Consulate based teams, others such as UKTI and the British Council to
align activities and present a joined up picture of UK research resources and expertise.
