Welcome to the website of the Research Councils UK China. China is the world's fastest-growing major economy, with growth rates averaging 10% over the past 30 years. In terms of research and development, China’s spending has grown by 20% per year since 1999, and is planned to increase from 1.83% of GDP (£86 billion) in 2011 to 2.2% (£120 billion) by 2015. As the world's second largest publisher of research with ambitious plans, China is a clear partner of choice for the UK and the UK Research Councils.
RCUK China was established in 2007 to enhance research funding partnerships between the UK and China. We aim to support the best researchers in the UK and China to develop high quality, high impact research partnerships.
Our strategy for enhancing our relationship with China focuses on:
Influence - building trusting relationships with our key partners to align priorities and agree mutual areas of research interest.
Excellence - working with our Chinese counterparts to support the highest quality UK-China joint research programmes.
Impact – ensuring that the research we support can have an impact on the societies and economies of both the UK and China.
Responsibility - working with our Chinese partners to support high quality research that tackles global challenges and has an impact beyond our two countries.
