Funding international collaboration

RCUK aims to make it simpler for UK researchers to collaborate with their preferred research partners around the world, by supporting enabling activities and reducing barriers.

A potential barrier to international collaboration is ‘double jeopardy’, the risk that a proposed joint project will be approved in one country but not in another. RCUK works with funding partners overseas to overcome this issue and has developed a range of funding mechanisms to fit a variety of interactions which build partnerships from first contact to large collaborative programmes.

RCUK takes a creative approach, developing mechanisms according to the type of activity being developed and the needs of the partners involved. Examples of recent jointly funded initiatives can be found by following the links on the left hand side.

Information about how RCUK funds research can be found in the Research section of this website and includes information on research policy, how to apply and eligibility.

In addition each Research Council has a funding guide which provides complete information on their research grant schemes.
