  A new Research Councils UK (RCUK) film highlights the next in a series of events about the research behind sport that is helping maximise UK athletes’ potential for top results at the London 2012 Olympic Games. Cutting Edge 2012: Behind Athletics was an opportunity for members of the public to question both the cutting-edge researchers and high-achieving athletes.

• Research Councils Internal Audit Service and RCUK Assurance merge
  On 2 April 2012 the Research Councils Internal Audit Service (RCIAS) merged with RCUK Assurance to create a single audit and assurance body. The new merged organisation is called Audit and Assurance Services Group (AASG) which reflects its new combined assurance role and the variety of customers it now serves.

  A new report highlights just some of the many ways in which research has helped Team GB limber up and prepare for London 2012. The report, Supporting a UK success story: The impact of university research and sport development, shows how research taking place at universities across the UK is helping to give athletes that extra split second or millimetre advantage which can mean the difference between gold and silver medals in competitive sports.
