Research Councils UK (RCUK) welcomes Dame Ann Dowling's Review of Business-University Research Collaborations published today (July 2).
RCUK has an essential role in the innovation ecosystem, both through investing in world-class research, and in partnership with organisations such as Innovate UK, the UK Higher Education funding bodies, users and other government departments. Our vision is for excellence with impact, to make the UK the best place in the world to do research, innovate and grow business.
Through our investment in the research base we ensure the excellence of UK research, and the outcomes thereof. This provides a vital supply of ideas, understanding and the skilled people that are desired and actively sought by business.
We have broad, deep and direct relationships with the business sectors, working in partnership with major UK and global companies as well as SMEs to increase business collaboration with and investment in the UK research base. We make a distinct contribution to academic-business interactions through our emphasis on co-discovery and developing creative research strategies, there are over 2,500 companies collaborating on our research and training portfolio.
We are committed to working with HEFCE and Innovate UK to deliver a whole systems approach to impact, including working to address the productivity challenge. RCUK will work with the Government, the UK Higher Education Funding Councils and Innovate UK to respond in detail to the Dame Ann's report in due course.
