Research Councils UK (RCUK) has launched a short film highlighting some of the exciting and innovating research funded by the seven Research Councils, demonstrating our ambition to ensure the UK remains the best place in the world to do research, innovate and grow business.
The film features interviews with Professor Rick Rylance, Chair of RCUK and Chief Executive of the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and Professor Jackie Hunter, Chief Executive of the Biotechnology & Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), who speak about the UK’s world-leading research and innovation, and the vital role the Research Councils play in maximising the impact of the research. The film also draws on some fantastic examples of research funded by the Research Councils.
Professor Rick Rylance said: “The UK is a world leader in research and innovation, with a reputation for excellence to be immensely proud of. We truly punch above our weight on the global stage in terms of the quality of research we produce and its high impact on economic growth and prosperity. The film highlights our important ambition – to maintain and further enhance the UK’s leading position as the best place in the world to do research, innovate and grow business. Only by doing this can the benefits of our research investments already made be secured, maximising the UK research base’s contribution towards the creation of a strong economy and societal benefit now and in the future.”
The film is being launched ahead of the RCUK Research, Innovate, Grow 2015 conference on 2nd July 2015 in London, which will showcase some of the exciting and innovate research funded by the Research Councils, bringing together an invited group of business leaders, entrepreneurs, world-leading researchers, parliamentarians and policymakers.

Our collective ambition is to ensure the UK remains the best place in the world to do research, innovate and grow business. The Research Councils are central to delivering research and innovation for economic growth and societal impact. Our investments create new knowledge through: funding research excellence; responding to society’s challenges; developing skills, leadership and infrastructure; and leading the UK’s research direction. We drive innovation through: creating environments and brokering partnerships; co-delivering research and innovation with over 2,500 businesses, 1,000 of which are SMEs; and providing intelligence for policy making.
