GCRF Interdisciplinary Research Hubs call

Research Councils UK invites proposals from eligible UK institutions to establish and lead a number of challenge-led and impact-focused GCRF Interdisciplinary Research Hubs which will tackle some of the most complex and persistent issues facing developing countries.

Between £8M - £20M (full economic cost) will be available for each Hub, provided over a 5 year period starting on 1st December 2018. Depending on the quality of the applications received we anticipate awarding 12-15 Hubs.

This call asks applicants to develop transformative approaches to ‘Intractable Development Challenges’ through: a challenge and impact focused approach; interdisciplinary research excellence; global partnerships; and strong organisation and leadership.

Intractable Development Challenges are cross-cutting and complex problems which are difficult to understand and address. The solutions are not always obvious, encouraging fragmented responses and the challenges themselves are resistant to change. They typically cannot be solved by a single organisation or by approaching them from only one disciplinary or sectoral perspective.
