Outstanding impact to be celebrated with awards

RCUK seeks feedback on good practice guidelines for open research data

Research Councils UK, on behalf of the UK Open Research Data Forum, has today published a draft Concordat on Open Research Data, which sets out expectations of good practice in publishing research data openly.

Research Councils UK responds to Burgess Review

Research Councils UK has today published its response to the independent Review of the implementation of the RCUK policy on Open Access, chaired by Professor Sir Bob Burgess. In implementing the recommendations, RCUK will establish a Practitioner Group drawn from those working with the policy in institutions, publishers and learned societies.

RCUK Water Showcase proves a huge success

On June 30, 2015, the Natural Environment Research Council and the Science and Technology Facilities Council sponsored the highly successful Research Councils UK Water Showcase on “Water for Future Cities”. The showcase was produced as part of the UK Water Partnership and was attended by a diverse audience of approximately 200 people from industry, government, civil society organisations and the research community.

Professor Philip Nelson elected next Chair of RCUK Executive Group

Professor Philip Nelson, Chief Executive of EPSRC, has been elected as the next Chair of the RCUK Executive Group. Prof Nelson will take on the role from 1 October when the current Chair, Prof Rick Rylance, steps down.

RCUK to co-host the Global Research Council 2016 annual meeting

Research Councils UK yesterday announced that they will co-host next year’s Global Research Council (GRC) annual meeting with the Indian Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB). The GRC is a virtual organisation comprised of the heads of research funding agencies from around the world, and two members bid each year to co-host its annual meeting.

Unlocking the future: Open Access communication in a global research environment

RCUK and the British Library, on behalf of the Global Research Council, hosted a workshop in April 2015 to bring together publishers, funders, libraries and other stakeholders from across the world to discuss perspectives on open communication in a global research environment. A note of the meeting, speaker presentations and the report are now available.

Updated RCUK guidance for funding applications involving animal research

Funders and the peer review process have an important role in assessing the validity, necessity and justification of research grant proposals in relation to the funding body’s research strategy and ethical framework. When research involving animals is proposed, funders have a duty to assess as part of the peer review the need to use animals, the appropriateness of the species and model chosen, and robustness of the planned experimental design and statistical framework.
