Concordat on Open Research Data

The Concordat on Open Research Data  has been developed by a UK multi stakeholder group to provide expectations of best practice reflecting the needs of the research community.  The principles in the Concordat recognise that research data should wherever possible be made openly available for use by others in a manner consistent with relevant legal, ethical, disciplinary and regulatory frameworks and norms, and with due regard to the costs involved.

The four original signatories; HEFCE, RCUK, Universities UK and the Wellcome Trust have now been joined by:

  • The Natural History Museum
  • Cancer Research UK
  • Sheffield Hallam University
  • Scottish Funding Council
  • The Higher Education Funding Council for Wales (HEFCW)

If your organisation would like to sign up to the principles in the Concordat please can you email
