The Research Councils UK Digital Economy (DE) Programme is supporting research and training to understand how the novel design and use of digital technologies through participatory design and user co-creation can contribute to an innovative, healthy economy and inclusive society and enhance peoples’ lives. This multidisciplinary Programme is led by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and has a remit that covers the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Medical Research Council (MRC).

The Programme Advisory Board (PAB) advises the DE Programme Executive Committee (DEPEC) on the research direction and balance of the programme. It will meet approximately 3 times per annum and have the following Terms of Reference:

To advise the DE team on research and training strategy across the programme’s remit, the balance between research and training activities and the cross?disciplinary balance of the programme;

  1. To monitor the progress of the programme, via regular reports from DEPEC and alert the DE team to new and emerging opportunities;
  2. To input to the evaluation of the achievements of the programme;
  3. To advise the team on areas or issues that need further exploration or investigation and advise on the transfer of the outcomes of the research to the user community.
  4. To help DEPEC develop input on specific topics as requested by Research Council leadership teams

PAB members are asked to act as a ‘critical friend’ and advocate of the Digital Economy theme, and are expected to demonstrate a high level of commitment to attending meetings and actively engage in discussion and debate.
