Maintaining the Older Person's Health, Activity and Employment.
Excellent research and the resulting benefits can be accrued through collaboration
between local authorities and Research Councils. The 'master class' sessions, aimed
at local authorities, saw a showcase of examples of excellent research, illustrating
the mutual benefits of local authorities and academics working together. The master
class workshop sessions encouraged in-depth discussion and facilitated future collaboration.
In an aging population, it is vital to the health and well-being of society as
a whole that research focusing on the older demographic is carried out. This workshop,
organised by LARCI in conjunction with Strategic Promotion of Ageing and Research
Capacity (SPARC), provided a broad representation of advances in approaches to improving
the quality of life of older people.
The workshop focused especially on activity, mobility, transport and the older
worker and the role that local governments play.
SPARC, is designed specifically to provide a platform, publicity and policy representation
for existing researchers and to encourage newcomers into ageing research.
